About Us

Find out who we are, what we stand for, and why we chose to work with chickens all day!

Our mission is to provide a comprehensive approach to improving food security and reducing barriers to education. Through community-based, hands-on learning, we increase knowledge, empower healthy lifestyles, and prepare the next generation for future opportunities.

Who We Are

Chickens.org is a program of Capax World, a 501(c)(3) charity founded in 2011, with a rich history of providing community-driven solutions to alleviate malnutrition and poverty. In 2020, we launched Chickens.org, an open-source, ad-free, and engaging chicken information center aimed at improving food security in the U.S. and around the world.

We empower communities by equipping them with innovative agricultural practices, encouraging people to raise their own chickens and grow their own food—home by home, community by community.

The Problem

Many underserved communities face food insecurity and lack access to fresh, healthy foods, which can impede academic success and overall well-being. The Coops and Gardens Initiative addresses these challenges by providing sustainable solutions that empower communities to take control of their food sources and futures.

We believe everyone should have easy access to the information they need to feed their families.

Our Approach

We understand that barriers to health and prosperity are multifaceted. People need more than just an information center; they need funding and support to implement customizable programs tailored to their community’s specific needs. To address these challenges, we created the Coops and Gardens Initiative, a three-pronged approach centered on using chickens to combat global poverty.

Our goals include:

  • Creating hands-on curricula to enhance students’ understanding of STEM, agriculture, and nutrition.  Additionally, we are providing education and resources to help individuals and communities start and maintain small-scale chicken coops and gardens.
  • Empowering communities to lead healthier lives by improving nutritional outcomes through increased access to fresh, healthy food. In doing so, we are transforming attitudes toward food and promoting sustainable living.
  • Fostering self-sufficiency through agricultural education and STEM-based curricula, to empower people to provide for themselves and their families. We accomplish this by enhancing nutritional knowledge and teaching the science of growing food.
  • Reducing barriers to education and promoting career-readiness by teaching essential job and life skills. These skills include critical thinking, reading comprehension, work ethics, teamwork, gardening, cooking, and emotional management. Furthermore, our mentorship programs support academic success and community engagement.
